How I work remotely
Remote contracts have run for clients in four countries, so the practices are the ones that survive not being in the room: written scope before work starts, work visible in the repository as it lands, and a standing weekly written update rather than meetings scheduled to prove progress. Questions that block work get raised the day they appear.
Working across time zones
Nothing here depends on being online at the same moment you are. Scope is written down, decisions are recorded where you can read them later, and progress is visible in the repository rather than reported in a meeting. Calls happen when a call is genuinely the fastest way to settle something, scheduled to suit whoever is joining. That makes the distance between us a scheduling detail rather than a risk you have to price in.
Retainers and ongoing engagements
Not every engagement is a project with an end date. Ongoing monthly work covers maintenance, dependency and security updates, performance work, and a steady stream of small features — the things that get skipped when nobody owns a codebase between releases. It suits a product that is live and still moving.

Do you work as a dedicated developer on a monthly basis?
- Yes. Monthly engagements reserve a defined share of my working time for one client, which suits a live product that needs continuous work rather than a single build. Scope is agreed each month rather than fixed for the year, so it can follow what the product actually needs.
How do you handle handover at the end of a contract?
- Documentation is written as the work lands, not compiled at the end — architecture notes, environment setup, deployment steps and the reasoning behind anything non-obvious. The target is that a developer who has never seen the project can get it running and ship a change without asking me a question.
